Hall Bulldog Project

Part of The Hall Bulldog Project — documenting Bob Hall's 1932 Thompson Trophy racer.

Not much survives of the Hall Bulldog’s original engineering drawings, but I did come across this scan of the original rudder pedal design with dimensional information.

The Drawing

Original Springfield Aircraft Company engineering drawing of Hall Bulldog rudder pedals

Original engineering drawing from Springfield Aircraft Company, Bowles Airport, Agawam, Mass.

This document features the Springfield Aircraft Company letterhead and shows the rudder pedal design in detail. The pedals feature embossed “S” and “A” letters—the company’s initials—along with a decorative concentric circle pattern at the center.

Visible Dimensions

The drawing includes several dimensional callouts:

  • Width: 5 3/16”
  • Profile dimensions: 3/4” and 1 3/8” visible on the side elevation

The profile view on the left shows the pedal’s thickness and the mounting interface.

3D Model

For those interested in 3D printing or CAD work, an STL file of the rudder pedal is available for download.

You’ll need 3D modeling software or a slicer application to view and print the STL file.

I’m not sure who originally provided these documents to me. If I owe you an attribution, please let me know!
