Airshows
Daring / Creative / Precise
Jim is not currently booking airshows. Maybe next year!
Like many people, I fell in love with airplanes when I was very young. My father was an aircraft broker so I grew up traveling and learning about aviation first‑hand from him.
When I came of age, I could not afford my own airplane so I got very involved in modeling. I built websites, started RC Groups, and later acquired Knife Edge Software, the original developer of the RealFlight simulator. I have since sold my websites and RealFlight‑related assets, but I continue to develop the core technologies. I love building flight simulators because they combine the three things I enjoy most: airplanes, programming, and physics. In August of 2020, for my work in the RC industry, I was inducted into the Model Aviation Hall of Fame by the Academy of Model Aeronautics.
As soon as I could afford it, I bought a real airplane and began a career in aerobatics. I became an air show pilot and an aerobatic competitor at the highest level of competition. I have been fortunate to fly a lot of interesting airplanes and meet many amazing people. Today I try to pass on what I have learned to help other pilots improve their precision and safety awareness.
I currently serve as President of the International Aerobatic Club (IAC). I have also served on the boards of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and the National Aeronautic Association (NAA), and worked with FAI/CIVA on catalog and rules committees. I have been honored as a member of the US Unlimited Aerobatic Team and as the US Advanced Aerobatic Team coach. In 2021, I proposed National Aerobatics Day, celebrated each year on the fourth Saturday in June.
On this page I share videos, photos, and memories from my ongoing aviation career.
